Praise the LORD!
Well my opinion on this subject is of little importance, so let's go straight to the Word of God on the subject!
1 Corinthians 14:39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid NOT to speak with tongues.
Personally, I know many christians in many denominations that get a little nervous when you start to discuss this subject with them. Fear of the unknown maybe? or perhaps it just gets a little scary when the unknown becomes real and would cause us to believe that the entire Word of God is more real that we actually cared to admit!
Obviously the apostle Paul had no problem with speaking in tongues;
1 Corinthians 14:18 I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:
It is true that that verse does NOT end there and Paul starts to set the order of tongues at that point ,but none the less, he did set it in order and NEVER forbade it!
To be honest, when I first heard of people speaking in tongues it was a little strange to me. In fact, it is possible that I was even a little jealous that some people had it and I did not. It was not until I got to the point where I just believed that with God ALL things are possible and if someone had something from God that I did not understand yet, may the LORD bless them anyway, that I received the blessing from the LORD!
It is perfectly clear that on the day the Holy Ghost was first poured out, all of them in the room received the Holy Ghost and began to speak in other tongues.
Acts 2:4 And they were ALL filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Maybe you are saying "That was then BUT this is now!" well it tells us just a few verses later in the same chapter that this event would be available to all for all eternity!
Acts 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call.
I have to admit I have seen the gift operate out of order, but at the same time, wouldn't you say that no operation of the gift is also out of order?
It seems quite unusual to me to fear the unknown when we speak of God, because if we truly believe that He is God and able to do ALL things, how can we begin to put His Gifts in a box? Also who are we as children of God to fear anything BUT God?
2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath NOT given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
1 Corinthians Chapters 12, 13 and 14 cover the operations of tongues and other gifts of the Spirit. I encourage each reader to study the Word of God and let God be God and let the river truly flow in the church. Paul said it clearly, or better yet, God said it clearly through Paul in;
1 Corinthians 14:39 Therefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid NOT to speak with tongues.
May the LORD bless you! and be sure to tell someone on the job about JESUS!
