Praise God!
God is good, All the time! Yes, even when you are in the pit you have to know that God is good! You may be wondering how God could even allow you to be in a pit in the first place, but, you gotta remember, What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger!
I imagine there are some people that think they have never been in the pit, but, there are many kinds of spiritual pits that a person can fall into. There is the pit of drunkeness, the pit of drug abuse, sexual pits, financial pits, marriage pits, lonliness pits, depression pits and the list goes on!
Even some of the greatest men of God in the bible had to go through a spiritual pit before God could use them the way He needed to use them. In the Book of Genesis, Joseph, was put in a pit by his very own brothers and left to die. This is a good example of someone God loves very much being allowed to suffer the darkness of this world. You may wonder how could God do such a thing but that is why you must continue to read your bible to see how it all turns out in the end!
God had a special plan for Joseph! Joseph also had a lot of pride before spending his time in the pit! Josephs' coat of many colors allowed his head to get a little big at times and caused his brothers to get jealous of him. I would like to say that it is very possible that God had to allow Joseph to go into the pit in order to strip him of his coat of many colors and humble him for the job he was about to do for the Kingdom of God!
I'm sure Joseph had to get pretty angry in that pit in the beginning and wanted to kill his brothers at some point for putting him in there, but, what a job God did humbling Joseph over the years so that when his brothers appeared before him again many years later, Joseph was able to handle the great power that had been given him and could love and hug the very ones that would have killed him rather that to revenge that evil with more evil!
Romans 12:17
Recompense NO man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of ALL men.
1 Thessalonians 5:15
See that NONE render evil for evil unto ANY man:
but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.
1 Peter 3:9
Not rendering evil for evil or railing for railing:
but contrarywise blessing, knowing that ye are thereunto called,
that ye should inherit a blessing.
I'm sure Joseph had no idea that his time in the pit and his example to his brothers' following his mistreatment would affect men of God for thousand's or years to come!
Jeremiah also went into a pit! Praise God that Jeremiah was given the vision of the clay on the potters wheel prior to his time in the mirey pit! The bible tells us in Jeremiah Chapter 38 that Jeremiah was sinking in the mud in the bottom of the pit he was put into. How easy it is for us to fall into our own pits and just begin to sink deeper and deeper!
I have heard that if you put a frog in a pan of warm water and turn the fire on underneath it and heat it up slowly, the frog will just stay there in the water as it begins to boil and die. The gradual heating of the water keeps the frog in that place until it eventually dies from the boiling water!
Jonah was in the pit of the whales' belly and the apostle Paul was put into a pit where he was eventually beheaded! The three Hebrews' were put into the fiery furnace and Daniel into the Lions' Den! Even Jesus Himself was put into the spiritual pit on more than one ocassion! He was in the pit of testing for forty days after He was baptized! Just before His crucifixion He was put into a pit of suffering where He was mocked and beaten for hours before they eventually nailed Him to a cross!
It's NEVER been easy for godly people! If you are in a pit right now be sure of one thing, you have NO WHERE to look but up! That's right! sometimes God will let you go so far down you've got NO WHERE else to look but UP!
There's only ONE WAY out of the pit! Surrendor EVERYTHING to JESUS! Keep your eyes on Him when you are in the pit and He will be faithful to deliver you the same way He delivered the mighty men of God in the bible! Look UP and don't give up!
Matthew 10:28
And fear NOT them which kill the body, but are NOT able to kill the soul,
but rather fear Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
