God bless you!
You have probably already heard that the United States landed the first rover on Mars today August 6, 2012. Wow, 54 million miles away from here! I remember hearing a long long time ago that men wanted to hide a bottle of happiness up there but they were sure that other men would eventually find it one day. How right they would have been!
I heard a story of a few scientist that found a way to put happiness into a bottle, but, being a bit greedy as many men are, they wanted to find a way to keep it all to themselves. So, they started discussing places where they could hide their new found secret and nobody else would be able to find it. The first scientist spoke up and said, "we can hide this bottle way down in the bottom of the ocean and there no man will ever find it" the others spoke up and said "No, that will never work, men are always searching and going places were they have never been, they would eventually find it there." A second scientist spoke up and said " I've got it! we can put it up on Mars or some other planet, sure they will NEVER find it there!" The others spoke up and said, " No, Men are always searching and one day they will probably be there and will surely find our little bottle of happiness." The last scientist spoke up and said, "I've got it! we will hide this bottle of happiness inside of a man!" Why inside of a man? the others asked, and the last scientist responded, "because men are always looking outside of themselves for happiness and surely they will not look in there!"
How true this can be for many of us! Always looking for someone or something to make us happy. True happiness can only come from the inside and if you are lacking that feeling on the inside maybe you need a litle drink to bring you around! I'm not talking about an alcoholic drink because surely that would never keep you happy very long anyway! In fact, you might come out of that a little more depressed than when you started.
There was a woman that had been divorced 5 times and living with a man unmarried at the time she found the drink of her life! In John Chapter 4 we find the story of just such a woman. This woman was a Samaritan and the Jewish people were not to have any dealings with the Samaritans.
John 4:9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto Him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
Knowing that the people chosen of God are not to have any dealings with you could quite possibly be enough to drain the happiness out of anyone! Thank God that the JEW of Jews could see that in this poor woman as He had come to quinch her thirsty soul!
John 4:10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of Him, and He would have given thee living water.
In the next verse, we see that this woman thought that what was going to quinch her thirst was way down inside a deep well, but, she was assured by Jesus that even if she drew from deep down inside that well, it was not going to satisfy her and He would not have to search so far to give her the drink of her life!
John 4:11 The woman saith unto Him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?
This woman actually thought that the water that her ancestors had been drawing for years was actually satisfying them but was now assured that they would always thirst again after drinking it.
John 4:12-13 Jesus anwered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: BUT, whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
Obviously this woman was a little tired of the same ol, same ol! She immediatly asked of this living water so that she would never thirst again nor would she have to keep making these dreadful everyday trips to a well that would never satisfy her.
John 4:15 The woman saith unto Him, Sir give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.
Unfortunately, not everyone takes such an awesome opportunity as fast as the Samaritan woman did. Some just keep on thirsting and searching for happiness outside of themselves even though deep inside they are NEVER fully satisfied. If anyone was not worthy to drink of this living water, surely, it was this 5 times divorced and living in fornication at the time she met Jesus, Samaritan woman that He was now inviting to drink of it.
Quit searching and let Jesus give you the drink of your life!
