As we shift seasons here in the USA, I praise the LORD for the beautiful summer we just had, and if your timing belt is good, you should have a pretty good fall and winter also!
If your wondering what this talk about a timing belt is, please hold on because I'm getting ready to get right into that. This letter may just bless you as much in the natural as it will in the spiritual! I remember hearing Vernon McGee preach a little sermon on evolution. In it he mentioned that people did not evolve from animals but however they do seem to be evolving into animals! Well, that sermon came back to mind as I recently went through a bit of a timing belt problem.
Just a few months ago I knew nothing about a timing belt but believe me, when yours goes, you are going to learn about them real quick! If you are not familiar with what a timing belt is, it is a belt in your car that you can not see but may be one of the most important maintenance repairs you can keep up with in your car!
What I learned is this, and if it seems out of the ball park for you to comprehend, I would try my best to get a little something out of this because it may prove to save you from car shopping a few years before you wanted to!
The timing belt in your car keeps the timing between the valves and the pistons just right so that they do not collide with each other and cause great damage to your engine. Fortunately for me when mine went recently, it was in a car that had what was known as a NON interference engine, which means, when the timing belt breaks the valves and the pistons will NOT collide even when the timing belt breaks! It was a 1995 car that I had and you would think that by 2012 we would surely have nothing to worry about in this area anymore. HOWEVER, as people continue to evolve, it seems that we have evolved from a safe NON interference engine up until 1996 or so and created an INTERFERENCE engine after 1996. This means that now if your timing belt breaks, more than likely, your engine will be destroyed and your car will be pretty much worthless. I guess that's a pretty good way to keep the customers coming back!
On the spiritual side of the matter, our hearts can be similar to the ever so important timing belt of a car! Although it can't be seen from the outside, if it is dry rotting and getting brittle it can eventually cause the whole body to have major problems!
Jeremiah 17:9
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
Everything that proceeds from your mouth depends on the condition of your heart. Therefore if your heart has been properly maintenanced it should be operating sweet and without any sputtering.
Luke 6:45
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
James, the half brother of Jesus, talked about the dangers of the tongue that can proceed from a heart that has not been maintenanced. How often can we bless and pray for someone on Sunday, while doing the Sunday thing, and then hit the China buffet afterwards and rip them apart!
James 3:8-11
But the tongue can no man tame, it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father, and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similtude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?
As the church enters a time where most call the gift of speaking in tongues an evil thing, it could be that just for this bitter reason, James 3:8-11, that God chose to take control of the tongues of new believers. Even in the natural, the first thing a baby does when it is born is cries out and likewise the new birth experience will be the same for all those that believe. No wonder Paul told the church to NEVER forbid it!
1 Corinthians 14:39
Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and FORBID NOT to speak with tongues.
When the timing belt in my car went, there was no warning, but thank God it was before cars evolved into what they are today! Likewise, if the heart breaks, it can also go without warning and we can find ourselves unprepared standing before a Holy God and asking Him to hold the pickles, hold the lettuce, only to find out, He never was a big fan of Burger King!
Although in the natural we have progressed from a no worry NON interference engine to what we have now, an interference engine, aren't you glad that in the spiritual we have gone from an interference body to a NON interference body thanks to our LORD Jesus Christ!
If your not sure after how many miles you should have your timing belt checked, you need to get with the manufacturer that designed it. In the natural, that would be the dealership that made your vehicle and in the spiritual that would be the God that designed you! Read the spiritual manual today! The Bible! Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth!

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
