Praise the LORD saints!
I have heard one of Paul's teachings preached more recently in the last couple years than ever before!
2 Thessalonians 1:10
For even when we were with you, this we commanded you,
that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
Not to take away at all from the importance of this scripture, BUT, what is Paul really saying here? After all, Jesus did say the laborer is worthy of his wages!
Matthew 10:9-10
Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,
Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, nor yet staves:
for the workman is worthy of his meat.
If there is one thing I have learned to understand in the Word of God, is, that it does NOT contradict itself. If something does not make sense, you need to keep reading until it all comes together!
When we go back to Paul's statement in 2 Thessalonians, we will notice Paul said some were not working at all.
2 Thessalonians 3:11
For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly,
working NOT AT ALL, but are busybodies.
Before Paul said what is noted in these two verses mentioned in 2 Thessalonians, he had previously mentioned that he had power not to work but chose not to do so.
2 Thessalonians 1:8-9
Neither did we eat any man's bread for nought;
but wrought with labor and travail night and day,
that we might not be chargable to any of you:
NOT because we have not power,
BUT to make ourselves an example unto you to follow us.
The problem with the Thessalonian church was the fact that some were doing nothing at all. It would be the equal of someone today in the church sitting around and watching TV all day except for the couple of hours a week they go to church. Taking the gospel into the world is far from being a day at the local amusement park! That is, if you continue to try and give the truth you have been shown without compromising it to keep people happy.
In Paul's letter to the Corinthians he really lays it out. In chapter 9, we see that some were even trying to say that Paul was NOT an apostle. Hard to believe with all of the miracles that Paul was doing at that time that anyone could have found it hard to believe he was an apostle.
1 Corinthians 9:2
If I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am to you:
for the seal of my apostleship are ye in the LORD.
It all really comes down to the fact that as long as you are on this side of the grass, you will have to deal with people that seldom read their bible. Let's face it! Even Stevie Wonder can see that today there are few people in the world concerned with the super natural ,but, have hours upon hours every day to spend in the carnal things of the world.
1 Corinthians 9:7
Who goeth a warfare anytime at his own charges?
who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof?
or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?
It is amazing that Paul rejected to use the power that God had given unto him in order that no man could use it against him. I'm not sure people would take it that far but obviously Paul thought they would!
1 Corinthians 9:15
But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things,
that it should be done so unto me:
for it were better for me to die,
than that any man should make my glorying void.
When you really get into the truth of it, God has set up a spiritual Kingdom but be sure there will ALWAYS be some carnal people trying to get into your way!
1 Corinthians 9:14
Even so hath the LORD ordained that they which preach the gospel
should live of the gospel.
Don't get mad at preachers because you don't have time for the gospel!
Have a blessed day and be sure to tell someone on the job about JESUS!
