Welcome!
If there is one thing you have to be sure of about God as you begin to seek Him, is the fact that He loves you. The Word of God is not always the easiest to digest. In fact you may come to the LORD with an appetite for honey, only to find out that it can taste a bit bitter at times.
Revelation 10:10
And I took the little book out of the angel's hand, and ate it up, and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.
The Word of God builds Character! and sometimes it hurts to work on our Character.
If you are not sure what Character is, let me explain. Most everyone is very concerned about their reputation, but, few understand what it is to be concerned about their Character. Your reputation is what other people think of you. It's the way you act when you are around other people and the way they see you to be. However, when you are alone or around certain friends you may act in a totally different way and that would be your Character. Your Character is the person you truly are, when it is just you and God in the house. When no one else is watching, the person you are at that time, shows the True Character of what you really are inside.
The Book of Proverbs is probably one of the most Character building books in the Word of God. There are 31 chapters in the book, which gives us a chapter to read for every day in the month. This is an awesome way to spend time with God on a daily basis as we seek to know and understand Him for who He really is and quite possibly find out who we really are at the same time!
Proverbs 1:7
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge:
but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Although the times may be changing, the United States of America was a country of great Character just a short time ago. It was a country built upon the Character of God as the individuals within the country were putting God above all else for many years.
Since prayer was taken out of public schools in 1963, security guards and metal detectors have taken His place. Without the Word of God, it is next to impossible to build true Character. I was born in the year prayer was taken out of schools and I remember the slow fade during my elementary years as the talk about God slowly went away and the talk of sex, drugs and rock and roll moved in rather quickly!
When you get into the Word of God and decide to become a pleaser of God instead of one of men, you quickly begin to see that so many things that people have told you are not at all in line with the way God has instructed His people to live.
Proverbs 2:1-5
My son, IF thou wilt receive My words, and hide My commandments with thee:
So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding
:
Yea, IF thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
IF thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
THEN shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of GOD.
It's amazing that the bible was the main source of teaching in schools for so many years and in just a short time it is almost illegal to even mention it. It's no wonder we need secuity guards and metal detectors everywhere we turn now because we let down our shield!
Proverbs 30:5
Every word of God is pure: He is a shield unto them that put their trust in Him.
One thing for sure, no matter how bad people try to mess up God's plan, be sure He still has EVERYTHING under control! See, God knew these times were coming. He has already seen the beginning to the end and has given us His Word so that we can know what will happen next also. He told us nearly 2800 years ago that this generation was coming.
Proverbs 30:11-14
There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.
There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes,
and yet is not washed from their filthiness.
There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! And their eyelids are lifted up.
There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords,
and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth,
and the needy from among men.
Don't worry! It won't be long now!
Have a blessed day and be SURE to tell someone on the job about JESUS!
