Well, it looks like summer is finally about to move in here in the Virginia area, but, we better give it a couple more weeks before we get too comfortable! I remember a man saying to me many years ago that his grandmother always told him to carry a jacket until June and I have seen those words of wisdom apply more than once over the years!
It's hard to believe it has already been more than 2 years since I started sending out this letter while I was in Peru. I expected this letter to only be temporary while I was out of the country but the pastor here in Virginia gave a huge nudge early on to continue with it and so here we are 2 years later!
So, why do most Christians only last about 10 years in their walk with God?
There are probably a few good reasons but let's start out with the parable of the sower. If you are not familiar with this parable you can find it in Matthew 13:1-9 and then it is explained in more detail in Matthew 13:18-23. For the purpose of answering the theme of this letter "Why do most Christians only last about 10 years walking with God?", we will focus on the third type of ground that the seed feel upon ,which is, "The Thorny Ground"
And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprung up, and choked them.
This verse is further explained in Matthew 13:22
He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word, and
the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he
2 Timothy was written by the apostle Paul while in Mamertine Prison. They say that this letter was handed through an 18 inch by 18 inch hole in the top of his small cell which is the way that everything coming and going at the hands of Paul came and went as he awaited execution at the time he wrote 2nd Timothy. At the time of this writing it was clear that Paul had been abandoned by almost all of the disciples he once had.
2 Timothy 4:10-11
For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia. Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee, for he is profitable to me for the ministry.
Most depart for the local amusement park or beach these days, but none the less, you get the drift!
The fact that Paul tells us that Demas loved this present world let's us know that the thorns had finally taken over in his life. This could very well be the NUMBER ONE reason that many Christians only last about 10 years in their walk with God! I would say it's probably very easy after 10 years of fighting for the gospel to want to just cash a pay check, come home, climb into the lazy boy recliner and grab the remote control! I am not against prosperity, but, is that prosperity furthering the Kingdom of God or hindering you from working in the Kingdom of God?
1 John 2:15
Love NOT the world, neither the things that are in the world, If any man love
the world, the love of the Father is NOT in him.
Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is
even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
Christians have been given a very undeserving amount of power, through grace, over the spiritual darkness of this present world. So, why are things constantly growing darker around us? Paul answers this question for us also in the 2nd letter to Timothy as he was speaking about the condition of churches in the last days.
2 Timothy 3:1
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 Timothy 3:5
Having a form of godliness, but, denying the power thereof, from such turn away.
It's comforting to know everything is going exactly as God said it would, but at the same time, we should have a burden to bring as many into the truth as we can as we await the Second Coming of The LORD!
They say still unto them that despise me, the Lord hath said, Ye shall have peace, and they say unto every one that walketh after the imagination of his own heart, No evil shall come upon you.
Now of coarse, that is old testament, so let's keep the thread running and get in the new testament.
For when they shall say, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child, and they shall not escape.
Romans chapter 11 talks about the Jews being the natural branches of God's Kingdom and us the gentiles being grafted in. Many are very aware of what the Jews have gone through because of disobedience to God, and Romans 11 make quite clear that we (gentiles) will be held just as accountable if NOT more accountable for what God has given us through grace!
I say then, Have they stumbled (The Jews) that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles (Anyone in the world with NO Jewish Blood in them, other than the Blood of Jesus Christ of coarse!), for to provoke them (The Jews) to jealousy.
Thou wilt say then (The Gentiles), The branches were broken off (The UN believing Jews), that I (The Gentiles) might be grafted in. Well, because of unbelief they (The UN believing Jews) were broken off: and thou (The Gentiles) standeth by faith. Be NOT high minded, but fear. For if God spared NOT the natural branches, take heed lest He also spare NOT thee. Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity: but toward thee, goodness, IF thou continue in His goodness otherwise thou also (Any UN believing Gentile) shall be cut off.
This is meant to encourage and NOT to discourage! In fact, as long as you're still breathing and able to read this letter the mercy of God is still available to you if you don't already know it! The GOODNESS of God is available to anyone that comes humbly before Him with a repented heart. This country is the greatest light in the world for Jesus Christ as it stands with the apple of God's eyes, Israel! I have learned that a few with God can make a huge difference in the middle of the greatest darkness! May prosperity be a blessing for the gospel and not to hinder the work of the gospel!
O, taste and see that the LORD is good, blessed is the man that trusteth in Him!
Have a blessed week!
AND be SURE to tell someone on the job about JESUS!
